Dr Helen Baker

Dr Helen Baker, Associate Director – Secondary Care, Wales Deanery.

Dr Helen Baker graduated in 1997 with 1st Class Honours in Management Science. After completing management training in the retail sector she commenced a PhD in Mathematical Modelling of Calcium Signals in the department of Medical Biochemistry, University of Wales College of Medicine (UWCM).

In 2003 she joined the Wales Deanery as the MMC Project Manager responsible for managing the introduction of the 2-year Foundation Programme as part of the Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) reform.


She was instrumental in the creation and development of the Specialty Training Office within the Wales Deanery and accepted the position of managing this team in 2009.  Since then the remit has expanded to take on a lead role for a number of initiatives for all trainees across secondary care including the development of Specialty Training Schools, the Wales Clinical Academic Track Programme, the Training Reconfiguration Programme and more recently the introduction of Education Contracts.
